A day of immersion in the daily life of the Ibadite brotherhood of the Dahar Mountains

A mystical and culinary experience in south-west Tunisia with the Association for the Protection of the Ksours and the Conservation of the Heritage of Béni Kheddache

Imagine living in the 14th century on this mountain with the ancestors of the Ibadite scholars of the Dahar Mountains, in their revolving school called Tighemmit. Take part in the rites of the Azzabas, the Ibadite schoolchildren, harvesting, cooking and participating in the religious ceremonies of the brotherhood. Dressed in “Houli”, the traditional dress of schoolchildren, you’ll experience a mystical and spiritual immersion in one of the most influential brotherhoods of the 14th century. The Ibadites have bequeathed a unique tangible and intangible heritage. In the spirit of preserving this heritage, our association is working to rehabilitate and revitalize this great place of spirituality and religious memory.

We’ve got you covered…

We offer you an immersion into the life of the Azzabas Ibadites, the students of the brotherhood who were and still are messengers of peace and friendship. By taking part in this experience, you’ll be helping us to enhance our heritage and live as a member of El Azzaba. You’ll learn the skills handed down from generation to generation, visit villages with their unique century-old architecture, and practice their ancestral traditions. Finally, you’ll enjoy meals in the Tighemmi, based on local produce: figs, olives, dates, milk and barley.
